About IKC’s commitment to business improvements

IRIE KOKEN CO., LTD. is committed to promoting various business improvements, through QC circle activities and obtaining ISO certifications. One of these activities is the TOC management approach that was introduced at the Shikoku Plant Nakayama Factory since 2006.

TOC (Theory of Constraints) is an approach that was developed by Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt in the latter half of the 1970’s, and was introduced the American manufacturing industries in the latter half of the 1980’s, which proved effective. In the U.S., the book was prohibited from being translated for 17 years dues to its management theories and fear of adoption by corporate in Japan. However in 2000, it was first introduced into Japan as a book titled “The Goal,” which became a hot topic of conversation.

“The Goal” created a temporary boom, and respective companies attempted to introduce it, but many companies gave up on introducing the theories from the book due to their inherent difficulties and the mismatch with Japanese culture.

With the help of a consulting company, IRIE KOKEN CO., LTD. introduced TOC, arranged to accommodate Japanese style, into some lines of the Nakayama Factory as the first of small and medium enterprises, and succeeded in tripling the production capacity without increasing facilities and personnel. This led to make dramatic improvements in delivery time, price, and quality.

The achievement, which gained the recognition of AGI in the U.S., was highly praised as one of the few successful examples of introduction outside the U.S. at “Velocity World 2009” that was hosted by the Institute in November 2009.

Based on this accomplishment, we will make efforts to provide better products by expanding the TOC management approach in other lines from 2010.

Thank you for your attention.
